California Evening Primrose

The California evening primrose
(Oenothera californica) flowers with four white petals,
fading pink.
The flowers droop in bud and become erect as they bloom.
Young plants have a basal rosette of leaves and older ones have leaves along the stem, lance-shaped to nearly oval in shape.
It is found in Southern California, southern Nevada, southeastern Utah, and portions of northwestern and central Arizona.
I found these in May 2010
along the lower portions of Cima Road
in the Mojave National Preserve.
